VENTURE: TruV (True Vision)

Cody Smith, 17, USA – My project has been in the works for about a year now. Following the problem solving model I have identified a problem that affects over forty million people across the globe who are visually impaired.
I intend to use a pair of “video glasses” that are currently being made for entertainment purposes and use it with a point Of View (POV) USB camera to give the user the ability to zoom in on a distanced object.
Along with this I intend to implement GPS into the device to give mobility instructions on screen to the user to make the task of getting around on foot easier. Many of these users are not able to obtain a drivers license due to there condition(s).
A voice only unit can be made for those who are truly blind with simple object detection and GPS capabilities.
This is something that needed to be made years ago. The people this will benefit are hard fighters who don’t know the meaning of the word “can’t” and who refuse to be labeled as “disabled.”
I would work with the various Divisions of Blind Services offered by each state to try to get the TruV system to their students who show dedication.
- Build a working prototype
- Make the device as small and compact as possible
- Improve performance
- Get corporate support

Hi Cody,
Do you already have a prototype of this system? Or are you building one now?

Hi, I am in the process of building the prototype now. Hopefully the Invent Your World funds will let my group have a fully developed prototype within the next few months.
